Learning Needs in DMT

Learning Plan

Objectives (what do I want to learn?):-

Besides stating my learning needs as mentioned earlier my main aim is to design a simple web site with good navigation (ordering paper cuttings) which will allow the user:-

  • To browse the contents;
  • Chose options of delivery; and
  • Study payment (This requirement would depend on time constraint, but I need to check the requirement for credit card validation) options (as the case maybe);
  • Register while giving feedback (this provision of registering I want to keep optional as I am not sure whether I this would be required or not).
  • Puntuality i.e.; complete the task in the stipulated time in the semester.

Strategies(how will I do it?):-

  • Develop the site structure of site map after thorough researching (examples, tutorials, books) and not to proceed linearly;
  • Divide the project in parts so that the simply aspects can be developed faster and I can concentrate on the complicated portions and be prepared for any exigencies;
  • Develop my knowledge of client technologies and how it can be integrated and function coherently with server side programming such as PHP and JavaScript;
  • Employ my existing knowledge of front end design and design work to create time and space to handle the learning task and delivery on time. I need to create a schedule and stick to it to complete the assigned task.

Resources(what exactly will I use?):-

I plan to use the online resources and tutorials like:-

  • W3 schools for learning HTML, CSS,
  • W3C Markup Validation Service,
  • W3C CSS Validation Service, and use
  • Mozilla Firefox / Firebug, Web Dev Toolbar and use http://www.tizag.com/javascriptT/index.php for javascript tutorial (as the case maybe) and
  • other online resources:-
    I want to use the Lecture slide, tutorial exercise and the video tutorials from class of DMT and other video tutorials available free in media sharing sites to develop and execute my project besides learning from other simple examples.
  • I plan to look up some books from the library such as
    • Zandstra, M. 2004, Sams Teach Yourself PHP in 24 Hours, (3rd edn.) SAMS;
    • Carey, Patrick HTML and XHTML(4th Edition or later) Thomson Course Technology 2005;
    • Hayes,D. 2006, HTML in Ten Minutes, (4th edn.) SAMS;
    • Murphy,C. & Persson,N.2009, HTML and CSS web Standards Solutions, New York NY 10013;
    • Oliver,D & Morrison, M.2003, Sams Teach yourself HTML and XHTML in 24 hours, (6th edn.) SAMS;
    • Nierderst, J. Web Design in a Nutshell (3rd edn.) O'Reilly.
